The Steelmade Flat Top Jr. adds amazing versatility to your 5 Burner Gas Range. Make delicious meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner on one unique cooktop that only gets better with age. The Flat Top Jr. is perfectly sized to cover the the center and right side burners while offering a large 18" x 18" cooking area. This leaves the left burners open for your regular pots and pans.
Heavy-Duty Construction
We use super-thick 3/16" steel on all of our standard Flat Tops that is over 50% thicker than competing griddles and nearly 4x thicker than typical pans or skillets. This larger thermal mass puts more heat into the food in less time for better sears and quicker cooking.
Stainless Steel Drip Tray
Every Flat Top includes a dishwasher-safe stainless steel drip tray that sits below the drain holes to collect drippings and make cleanup a snap.
Uniquely Designed Front Lip
The unique design of the front lip on the Steelmade Flat Top is part of the secret sauce that makes cooking on a griddle so special. What seems like a bold design choice actually creates critical airflow to keep food from getting soggy while providing easy access to the food when cooking. The front of the Flat Top features a small 5 degree break to prevent accidental spills without interfering with any of the important features of our three-sided design.
Safe, Natural Non-Stick Cooking Surface
The seasoning process is literally the black magic of Flat Top ownership. If you've ever owned cast iron cookware, you're probably already familiar with the term. For the uninitiated, "seasoning" refers to a natural chemical reaction where oil and fat are heated to the point where they literally bake into the steel through a process called polymerization. This transforms the raw silver steel into a gorgeous black finish with amazing non-stick properties without the use of dangerous coatings like Teflon that only gets better with time.
Easy To Store
Our popular Cover Boards are competition-quality cutting boards available in Maple or Walnut custom manufactured to fit securely on top of the Flat Top. This provides an attractive cover for storing when not in use and doubles as an extra large prep space when cooking!
Our Flat Top Griddles will transform your normal kitchen stove into a restaurant-quality cooktop. There are many reasons why restaurants use flat top griddles for cooking the best meals and now you can enjoy the same benefits at home!
1. Food cooks faster on a Steelmade. We use super-thick 3/16" steel on all of our standard Flat Tops that is over 50% thicker than a Blackstone Griddle and nearly 4x thicker than typical pans or skillets. This larger thermal mass puts more heat into the food in less time for better sears and quicker cooking.
2. Food tastes better on a Steelmade. The reviews are in and customers agree: food just tastes better on a Flat Top. The most important part of the flavor comes from the unique seasoning layer that builds up on the Flat Top with use. Not only does this create a naturally non-stick cooking surface it also adds to the flavor of any food. The more you use it, the better it gets! The unique design of the front lip also allows for important airflow that will keep food from getting soggy while cooking - something that can't be duplicated in pans and skillets.
3. Two Minute Cleanup. The Flat Top is simply the easiest piece of cookware to clean - period. Right after you're done cooking you just pour a cup of water on the Flat Top and it steam cleans the surface in seconds with no soap or scrubbing required. Even the biggest meals can be cleaned up in under 2 minutes!
The average American dines out 5.9 times per week and according to BLS data, the average household spends about $3,500 on eating out every year, or just shy of $300 per month.
That means, in less than 30 days of cooking at home, your Steelmade Flat Top will have paid for itself - and then some!
The Steelmade Flat Top Jr. is designed to work with standard 30" gas ranges with 5 burner cooktops that include a center oval-shaped burner with a minimum 19" of cooking area depth. It will not heat correctly on cooktops without the center burner.

Flat Top Jr. Dimensions
The drip tray is placed below the grate in front of the center burner. Many grate designs are open enough so the drain holes have a clear and open path to the drip tray below. Some grates may have a small portion that run directly under the drain holes. If your grate lines up directly beneath a drain hole you can prevent drippings from touching the grate by putting a little piece of tin foil around the small part of the grate that sits directly underneath the drain holes. Alternatively, you can remove the center section of grate entirely.
Please note, we do not recommend or offer support for using the Jr. Flat Top on glass ceramic cooktops.

Can I use pots and pans on the Flat Top?
We do not recommend using pots and pans to heat water directly on the standard Flat Top. This warning does not apply to the PRO Series Flat Top. Click here to learn more.
Where do I store the Flat Top when not in use?
We offer two solutions for storing your Flat Top. Many customers find they use their Flat Top for most of their cooking so storing it in place on their stove is the most convenient option. For this scenario we offer our line of Cover Boards that serve as an attractive cover that keeps the cook top clean while also beautifying the appearance of your stove. For customers that will wish to remove the Flat Top between meals or for longer term storage we offer a canvas Storage Sleeve.
How do I clean the Flat Top?
True story: cleaning the Flat Top is WAY easier than cleaning pots and pans. The entire process takes less than 2 minutes and is done right on top of the stove. You can click here to learn more.
Do the Flat Tops heat evenly? Are there any hot spots?
The Flat Tops provide even heating because of their very large thermal mass and thick steel construction. We have a Knowledge Base Article that goes into detail including thermal images that you can view here.
Where does the grease go?
Each Indoor Flat Top includes a removable dishwasher-safe stainless steel drip tray that is placed below the Flat Top beneath the drain holes during use. Placement varies depending upon the style of Flat Top and type of stove you have. Additional information is available in the product description.
Do the Flat Tops season like cast iron?
They do! The seasoning process forms a naturally non-stick finish that darkens the Flat Top to a beautiful cast iron appearance. We also offer an option to purchase your Flat Top pre-seasoned so that it's ready to go straight out of the box. You can learn more about the seasoning process by clicking here.
Do the Flat Tops warp?
The material and design of the Flat Top make it resistant to warping. Because metal expands when heated it is normal for there to be a slight "bow" across the front lip of the Flat Top when cooking, especially at higher temperatures. This is most often observed during the first few heating and cooling cycles of the Flat Top and will tend to even out after multiple uses. This small bow will in no way affect the performance of the cooktop. We have extensive information available by clicking here.

Steelmade Cookware is excited to announce we now offer the option to have your new Flat Top or Pizza Steel pre-seasoned and ready for immediate use!

Our ultra-filtered grapeseed oil is heated at high temperatures to create a uniform initial seasoning layer that lets you cook with your new cookware right out of the box. This durable finish is easy to clean and maintain and will continue to darken and become increasingly non-stick the more you cook on it. Learn more about seasoning here.

Some stoves can make it difficult to create such an even seasoning layer at home. Our large, custom built production oven allows us to heat the entire flat top to a high temperature to create a perfectly even finish.

Steelmade Cookware is a real family-owned business based in the heart of America in rural Kansas. We started in a garage in 2016 with no employees and have since grown to a team of 20 people dedicated to building you the best cookware and accessories possible using American materials and labor. When you purchase a Steelmade product, you're joining the Steelmade family!
Our team works hard to quickly respond to any email questions you may have. They've been with Steelmade for years and both own and use the products they provide support for. They're also available on live chat during the week for quick answers and knowledgable assistance on anything Steelmade.
These gals almost single-handedly process hundreds of orders per week through the Steelmade warehouse. They do it all from assembly, packaging, and shipping, and somehow even have time to manage inventory levels and reordering. During holiday rushes we all chip in to get orders out the door but most of the time when you place an order, Kaitlin and Dejah are signing your packing slips.
While being a seamstress was a common occupation in our area many years ago, offshoring so much of the fabric industry overseas in recent years has made sewing a dying art. We're very proud to have Kristina and Kim making all of our Storage Sleeves in-house!
Josh and Anthony are true craftsmen, transforming rough lumber into the beautiful Cover Boards, Cutting Boards, and even the wood handles found on some of our kitchen tools.
It’s common knowledge that products made in America cost more than comparable products made overseas, especially in China. Do you get a better product for your extra money, or are American businesses greedy for your hard-earned cash? When it comes to cookware, you get what you pay for.
Steelmade Cookware is part of a small minority of cookware brands that exclusively use American Steel and labor to manufacture their products. American Steel costs significantly more than foreign steel because it is subjected to rigorous testing and safety standards to certify the ingredients used to make it. China produces nearly 50% of the world’s steel supply but is not subject to any testing requirements. Chinese steel is so much cheaper because it is simply an inferior product that sometimes includes ingredients that may make it more affordable to produce but dangerous to prepare food on. Every member of the Steelmade Cookware Team owns and uses a Flat Top Griddle to prepare food for their families daily, so you know safety is priority number one.
Cookware imported from China is often mass-produced in crowded factories by the lowest bidder using underpaid or forced labor. These faceless mega factories do not specialize in making cookware and often produce dozens or even hundreds of different, unrelated products under one roof. This high-volume, low-cost mindset sacrifices quality control and creates a lot of variability from product to product. Imported cookware usually arrives pre-boxed and ready to ship to customers so the product is never checked for quality by the actual company before the customer receives it.
Steelmade Cookware is manufactured in Kansas using American Materials by highly skilled craftsmen that have specialized in making products for the cooking industry since 1977. Each Flat Top is cut from large sheets of material using precision computer-controlled lasers before being formed, welded, finished, and inspected by hand to ensure each customer receives the best possible product.
It’s easy to see the benefits to all Americans when they purchase products made in the USA. Keeping your dollars at home supports job growth, tax revenue, business development, and so much more. When you choose to buy American products, you are directly helping to strengthen the American economy.
It is cheaper to manufacture cookware in developing countries because they typically have few or no environmental regulations. These unrestricted factories produce large amounts of hazardous chemicals that pollute the air, water, and soil. Additionally, products made abroad have a greater distance to travel to reach the U.S. This travel creates a much higher carbon footprint than U.S.-made goods and materials. Shipping goods overseas burn large quantities of fossil fuel and dumps greenhouse gases into the atmosphere with every mile traveled, disrupting ocean and other wildlife. Even without the decrease in carbon emissions, American-made cookware is more environmentally friendly than foreign equivalents because American manufacturers must adhere to state and federal environmental regulations. Not every country follows environmental and pollution restrictions as strict as those in the United States. American-made products come with the guarantee that the manufacturer meets American standards. From cleaner manufacturing practices to health and safety product regulations, American-made goods are a responsible and environmentally friendly option for consumers.
Consumers want to know where the products they let into their homes come from. They want to buy better, not more. And when it comes to quality, nothing beats Steelmade Cookware. With a long history in manufacturing, our products are made with skilled hands, have passed rigorous quality tests, and have been built with a level of craftsmanship that’s hard to find in many outsourced products. Buying American may come at a slightly higher price tag, but it comes with the assurance that it is money well spent on a product that is made to last.
